Pocket Philharmonic Edition - Big Music for Small Ensembles

Pocket Philharmonic Edition
Edition Peters is delighted to be able to represent the Pocket Philharmonic Edition, a catalogue of arrangements of large scale orchestral works for small ensemble.

Over 15 years, the Taschenphilharmonie has specialized in performance of works from the orchestral repertoire in arrangements for small ensemble of 10 to 20 musicians. These arrangements are made by their Music Director Peter Stangel and together they now stand as perhaps the largest collection of such reorchestration in existence.

The aim of the arrangements is to reproduce the sound of the large orchestra as faithfully as possible. The repertoire ranges from Haydn to Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms to Ravel and Mahler.
At this highly unusual time, with the orchestral performance world still greatly compromised by restrictions resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, this catalogue offers a new way to reimagine the worldís most loved orchestral pieces.

These arrangements, transparent and lively, and carefully attuned to the composerís original conception are in themselves an exciting new way to discover these great works.

The catalogue also includes ensemble versions of chamber music works: for example, Schubertís Sonata in A minor inhabits a new sonic environment in its arrangement for ten musicians; Brucknerís string quintet becomes a veritable chamber symphony for 12 players.
