Sebastian Fagerlund wins Swedish Cultural Prize

Sebastian Fagerlund has been awarded the Swedish Culture Foundation's major cultural prize for his versatile activity as a composer and will be awarded €30,000 at the Cultural Foundation's spring festival in Helsinki on 8 May.

The prize recognises Fagerlund’s output of music which covers everything from opera and orchestral works to chamber music and instrumental solos. Fagerlund's compositions have been performed around the world with his opera Autumn Sonata, premiered at the National Opera in the autumn of 2017 receiving rave reviews worldwide and a nomination for best opera in the International Opera Awards.

Whilst Fagerlund is internationally active, he is also involved in the curation of the annual chamber music festival RUSK in Jakobstad, which he founded with clarinettist Christoffer Sundqvist.
