09/01/2019
Peters Edition is deeply saddened to hear from the Joubert family of the death on 7 January of the composer John Joubert at the age of 91.

Born in Cape Town, Joubert moved to the UK having won a PRS scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 19. His compositional career spanned over 70 years building a body of work which includes operas, orchestral works, concertos for oboe, bassoon, violin, cello and piano, chamber and instrumental music through to carols, anthems and major choral-orchestral pieces.

His symphonies, string quartets and choral works form part a rich catalogue of recordings from across his work list. To celebrate his 90th birthday in 2017, his opera Jane Eyre premiered with the English Symphony Orchestra and was recorded live for Somm Records. He taught at the University of Hull and then at the University of Birmingham, the city where he and his family made their home for over 50 years.

His work is published by Novello & Co and Peters Edition.
