PRS Foundation Announces Composers' Fund Awardees

Roxanna Panufnik and Piers Hellawell have been awarded funding from the PRS Foundation’s Composers’ Fund. The fund is a new opportunity giving direct access to funding to established composers making the case for support to them to make a significant step change in their career.

Panufnik’s award will fund a new recording of her previously unrecorded choral works with Ex Cathedra, to be released by Signum Records in Autumn 2018, alongside a programme of high-profile concerts and premieres during her 50th birthday year. Tracks will include a new commission Child of Heaven; the poignant and romantic Since we parted about lovers separated by World War I and a collaboration with South Asian musicians of Milapfest, Unending Love, a blend of English Choral tradition, a carnatic singer and Indian instrumentation, performing Western harmonies infused with Indian modes.

Hellawell’s PRS funding will go towards a large-scale recording project enabling him to make recordings of his major works from the last eight years and using, in each case, the artists for whom he originally conceived the work. His 2016 BBC Proms work Wild Flow will act as the centre-piece, recorded by The Ulster
