Alberga was born in Jamaica, and initially moved to the UK on a scholarship to study piano and singing at the Royal Academy of Music. Her compositional talents soon came to the fore whilst working in contemporary dance, and she now boasts a rich catalogue of works noted for their emotional impact, depth of craft and brilliant colouring and orchestration. Her music includes opera, string quartets, orchestral music, music for solo voice and choir, and piano works that have a connection to her Jamaican heritage.
