Bernd Franke's new composition Ein Licht, das uns nicht kennt ('A light that does not know us') premieres on 24 August at the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts as part of MDR Musiksommer.
Commissioned by the festival, Dres. Fee and Ingo Holz of Berlin, and the association ‘Freunde und Förderer des Raschèr Quartetts, the piece for mezzosoprano and saxophone quartet sets texts by Christian Lehnert, one of the foremost contemporary German poets and a past librettist of Hans Werner Henze. In this work, Franke delves into the concept of space by setting all possible combinations of the performers from solo to quintet, with international Mezzosoprano Christina Bock, of the Semperoper, and the Raschèr Saxophon Quartett.
