Hungarian composer György Ligeti (1923–2006) was unquestionably one of the great composers of the last half-century. In most fields of composition he discovered new means of expression. Many of his works contain an almost Haydn-like sense of fun. He was variously influenced by his immediate Hungarian musical forefathers, the Western avant-garde, the American experimental tradition (the player-piano music of Conlon Nancarrow) and non-European musical traditions (including Caribbean, central African and Asian).

Peters Edition publishes six classic works by Ligeti from the 1960s.
