Hinrichsen Music Publishers Return to the City of Leipzig
The Hinrichsens, publishers from 1863 of the world-famous Edition Peters, are returning to their former ancestral home in Leipzig.
Alongside a number of planned publishing projects,
the newly founded Edition Hinrichsen GmbH will also be promoting the music published by the Hinrichsen Peters companies in London and New York.
This includes the works of John Cage, one of the most influential composers of the twentieth century.
The official opening of Edition Hinrichsen GmbH will be on 18th September 2008 at Talstrasse 10 in Leipzig
It was in this street that the Hinrichsen family lived and worked in the historic C.F. Peters House until the Second World War.
The building, built in 1874 by Otto Brückwald,
who was also the architect of the Bayreuth Festival Theatre,
was in those days at the very heart of the town’s cultural life.
Many of the composers published by the firm were regular visitors.
Among them was Edvard Grieg, the famous Norwegian composer,
who was a regular guest of the family during his numerous visits to Leipzig.
Among many other works, it was there that he composed the world-famous first Peer-Gynt Suite. Read on
